On our recent holiday to Lanzarote with my wife, one of the highlights for me was spending a few hours at Lanzarote Airport with my new Canon R6 Mark II. The airport itself has a unique charm, with its blend of local architecture and the constant flow of sun-seeking travelers. While my wife was soaking up the sun by the pool, I was busy putting the camera through its paces, capturing everything from aircraft landings to the shimmering Atlantic backdrop. The R6 Mark II handled the strong island light beautifully, producing crisp detail and vibrant color even in the harsh midday sun.

As expected, most of the traffic was the usual mix of holiday carriers—Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, and TUI regularly shuttling passengers to and from the UK and mainland Europe. However, I was thrilled to catch sight of something much rarer: a TUI Boeing 787. Its sleek fuselage stood out dramatically against the more common narrowbodies, and it was easily one of my favorite shots of the day.

Adding to the excitement, there was plenty of military activity as well. A pair of Spanish Army helicopters performed training circuits just offshore, their rotors shimmering in the heat haze, while a Spanish Air Force CASA transport aircraft made a brief stopover. Seeing these alongside the steady rhythm of commercial flights gave the airport a wonderfully eclectic feel, something I hadn’t quite expected from a holiday destination.
