Last Sunday I took the kids to the Portadown Viking Experience. This was a two-day event were ancient crafts and life-styles were shown to the public. There was also a falconry display and a brilliant battle re-enactment. We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours walking around the various displays and exhibits. Already looking forward to the next one.

Irish Air Corps Night Shoot

April 3, 2015 Aviation  No comments

I was lucky enough recently to be invited by the Irish Air Corps to their latest night shoot. I believe this is only the second one they've held. It was to be on a Wednesday evening and I had to be there by 7:45pm at the latest.

As is always the case it was a rush - left home at 5:30pm but wasn't actually getting out of Lurgan until 5:45pm, the usual being held up by railway gates and traffic lights.

Anyway even without breaking any speed limits we (my son was with me) managed to arrive at the base just after 7:30pm and was greeted by Sergeant Hayles and shown in to the Mess. There was probably 30 or 40 other like minded enthusiasts, some I knew others I didn't.

At around 8pm after a safety briefing we were brought by bus out on to the runway. This was totally different to last

Ulster Folk and Transport Museum

March 24, 2015 Museum  No comments

On St. Patrick's Day the family jumped in the car and we headed to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra. I have to say it's been many, many years since I have visited both but I certainly wasn't disappointed. Well just once, more on that later.

The Transport side of the museum was fantastic: trains and automobiles of all shapes and sizes. It was possible to climb about some of the trains, I felt like Casey Jones for part of the day - younger ones will have to google that name :) The one disappointment was the fact that the aviation section of the museum was closed, it's undergoing renovations.

The Folk museum was equally as fantastic: Old shops, printers, banks, police station, all just amazing. Then a walk through the country side to visit an old school and farms.

A partial solar eclipse happened over the UK on Friday 20th March. I was at work but thankfully had the opportunity to capture it. I tried to capture something different to the norm and believe I achieved that.

Casement Aerodrome Visit

April 18, 2014 Aviation  No comments

It's been a while since I updated the site but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post some of the shots I got at a recent visit to the Irish Air Corps base at Casement Aerodrome. It was a fun few hours were myself and 4 others were allowed access to the apron and hangars for some excellent photo opportunities. A big thank you goes out to Sergeant Jimmy Hayles who was our guide for the day.

Tiny Life Christmas Party

December 9, 2013 Portraits  No comments

I had the privilege to be asked to cover this years Tiny Life Christmas Party in Waringstown. It was a small affair but the kids were magic and really seemed to enjoy it. Obviously the visit to see Santa and Mrs Claus was the highlight of their day.

Photos from the grotto have been uploaded here. The page is password protected and the password will be sent out in due course.
